NTL withdraws $9.28 billion bid for Britain's ITV

Article Abstract:

NTL Inc. of the United Kingdom has given up on a 4.7 billion Pounds ($9.28 billion) acquisition bid for ITV PLC also of the United Kingdom. British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC recently purchased a 17.9 percent stake in ITV PLC, a move that prevents any takeover of the broadcasting interest. ITV PLC share price is down two percent to 170 Pence and NTL Inc. share price is down 35 Cents to $24.53 on the Nasdaq stock exchange.

ITV profit rises despite ad drop

Article Abstract:

ITV PLC of the United Kingdom posted increased first half profit to 120 million Pounds ($229 million) from 109 million Pounds last year. Revenues were due to sale of an interest in Seven Network of Australia as subscriptions to ITV1 television channel declined. Chief Executive Officer Charles Allen resigned over investor pressure due to decreased company performance.

Viacom profit falls nearly 10% amid higher interest expenses

Article Abstract:

Viacom Inc. of the United States posted a first quarter earnings decrease of 10 percent, with profit $317.2 million down from $350.3 million last year. Revenues were effected by low earnings at its Hollywood movie studio and a decrease in advertising at its German cable broadcasting unit.
