Nation-builders

Article Abstract:

South Korea's conglomerate corporations helped to trigger an economic crisis and diversified with a lack of business logic. They borrowed large sums in order to expand and benefited in some areas where a large market share was advantageous. Wage bills grew and workers had job security and little notion of links between productivity and wage rises. The government has sought to restructure the conglomerates following the crisis, and has brought in stricter accounting standards and other methods to preent a repetition of the crisis.
