Nestle plans campaign in U.S. for Nescafe brand

Article Abstract:

Nestle SA (Switzerland) is planning a new world-wide campaign to sell coffee, as part of its efforts to revamp customer's attitudes about coffee. The U.S. campaign will kick off sometime this year. The coffee industry, recently has experienced stagnation. By concentrating on coffee as a beverage rather than a product, Nestle hopes to reinvigorate sales. Nestle also intends to make Nescafe a globally known brand. Research has shown that coffee consumption in the U.S. continues to decline. Yet, specialty coffees, as served in Starbucks continues to slowly rise up. Drinkers increased to 4.9 percent this year, as compared with 3.3 last year, and 1.7 in 1995.

Verizon's profit of $2 billion meets forecast

Verizon Communications Inc. posted profits worth $2 billion (2.38 billion euros) for the 2000 third-quarter. The profits were in line with what analysts had predicted.
