New Chip Recognizes Fingerprints

Florida-based AuthenTec Inc. has introduced a new computer chip that is capable of recognizing human fingerprints. The technology, which is used for security devices that control building access, represents about one-third of the lucrative market for anatomically-based security hardware and software products.

Chip maker's shares fall after earnings warning

National Semiconductor Corp. saw its share value decline by 34% after it forecasted disappointing earnings and sales for the 2000 second- and third-quarters. The forecasts was attributed to the firm's struggling mobile phone and personal computer sectors.

Transmeta shares double in first day
