New chief of Cerebos doesn't shy from making acquisitions or tinkering with flagship brand

Article Abstract:

New Cerebos Pacific Managing Dir. Ken Kobayashi is taking a different track in running the Singapore-based food company. In marked contrast to his more conservative predecessors, Kobayashi has launched an aggressive strategy that includes the acquisition of regional food companies and expansion into new markets. Kobayashi has also initiated steps to boost the market position of Brand's Essence of Chicken, the company's flagship product.

Western food firms sniff profit in Chinese herbs

Article Abstract:

Western food companies such as Nestle SA, Quaker Oats Co. and Unilever have begun studying Chinese herbs, roots and foods that are believed to have medicinal or curative properties. Their main purpose is to determine how these traditional medicines can be incorporated into their products. In response, Asian companies are developing new marketing strategies in preparation for the competition posed by these Western firms.

Danone hopes cookies will crack Indonesian market

Article Abstract:

France-based Danone Group is entering the Indonesian market in a $20 million joint venture with PT ABC Central Food Industry, one of Indonesia's largest food and beverage manufacturers. The company holds a 56.1% stake in the venture, PT Danone Biscuits Indonesia, which will initially manufacture and market Danone's popular biscuit brands.
