Nigeria falls apart again?

Article Abstract:

There have been riots in Kaduna, northern Nigeria, and at least 500 people have died, while many Chritian families have fled. There is concern that this could lead to civil war. A number of northern states aim to impose Muslim law on Muslims, and this is opposed by non-Muslims, though it is not planned to impose Muslim law on them. The plan has come from politicians seeking to attract more support. President Olusegun Obasanjo should act to increase tolerance and reduce tensions.

Pull out his eyes, apologise: James Joyce and his interpreters

Article Abstract:

The works of James Joyce intrigue scholars. Even deciding which is a definitive text is difficult. The writer's penmanship was poor and he often wrote out excerpts of his books to sell to wealthy patrons. His work is without copyright, 50 years after his death so that scholars are free to reissue various texts.

Never apologise, never explain

Article Abstract:

Since Oct 2000, Nigeria's human-rights panel has been conducting hearings into abuses since the 1960s, but seems to have achieved little. Three generals and former military rulers, Muhammadu Buhari, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida, have refused to appear before the hearings.
