The Nigerian government is overhauling its petroleum industry, targeting a more balanced relationship between itself and foreign energy firms. Changes include the formation of a national oil firm to improve management of oil and gas resources and increasing Nigeria's share of its oil profits.

Sinopec seeks overseas oil fields but rejects outright purchase

China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. is to increase its lessening reserves by planning foreign joint ventures or stake purchases rather than a direct acquisition. It was shut out by the United States government in its attempted purchase of Unocal Corp. last year.

Shell looks to grab bigger share of China's huge energy sector
