No more Staling: South Africa's currencies

Article Abstract:

South Africa may give up its dual-currency system that keeps its exchange controls in place. Foreign investors currently use the financial rand, while locals use the commercial rand, which is considered overvalued. The change could occur as soon as early 1995.

More turbulence ahead: Asian currencies

Although the Hong Kong dollar is unlikely to lose value, other Asian currencies such as Thailand's baht are likely to experience further devaluation. Nearly all Asian banks have for years lent too much money too easily with little supervision.
