Nomura's chance to emerge

Article Abstract:

Nomura Securities Co. may still remain a competitive player in the Japanese financial industry as its diversified business interests has helped the company pull through from a wave of disastrous scandals. The company's stock registered a 6.3% rise at the close of trading on July 31, 1997. Analysts note the rise may continue and could register as high as 3,000 Yen as the company remains one of the biggest brokerage firms in Japan.

Asian index funds can be trickier than U.S. counterparts

Article Abstract:

Investing in Asian index funds is a lot trickier than investing in US index funds because information flow is more difficult in the Asian markets. Investing is more prone to swing on big trades due to the higher costs incurred and the presence of fewer investors in the market. The inefficiencies in the regional markets of Asia make managers more valuable because they can adjust a fund's portfolio.
