Oil firms are called to talks on stalled Kashagan project

Article Abstract:

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has announced a meeting on Jan. 11, 2008 with six foreign petroleum firms to address delays regarding production in the Kashagan oil field. The oil companies involved are Italy's Eni S.p.A., the chief operator of the project, and France's TOTAL S.A., Japan's INPEX Corp., the Netherlands' Royal Dutch-Shell PLC, and American firms ConocoPhillips and Exxon Mobil Corp. The expected outcome is a change to the production-sharing arrangement allotting more revenue to the Kazakh government, with production beginning in 2011.

U.S. doesn't need to block Cnooc bid -- The threat is enough

Sino-American economic relations will influence the outcome of the China National Ofshore Oil Corp. bid for Unocal Corp. Soaring textile imports from China, intellectual property violations, failure to revalue its currency and the worry of Americans that their jobs may be going to low wage labourers in China will play a role. Unocal Corp. is an American company but it does most of its business in Asia.

Sinopec receives another infusion of Chinese cash

Article Abstract:

China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) has recently received a subsidy of $640 million from the Chinese government, to compensate for low domestic fuel prices . This is the second time in two years that the company has received such a subsidy.
