U.S. intensifies its oil-food inquiry

Article Abstract:

Three businessmen are accused of paying kickbacks to the Iraqi government in a United States criminal investigation of United Nations oil-for-food initiative. The bribery effectively robbed the United Nations program of money allocated for humanitarian aid. David Chalmers, Ludmil Dionissiev and John Irving (who is still at large) are being investigated as well as Tongsun Park, a South Korean unregistered agent of Iraq accused of bribing a United Nations official.

Oil prices don't fuel capital spending; producers are wary despite crude's gains

Article Abstract:

Crude oil prices have increased from less than $15 per barrel in the first six months of 1999 to approximately $26 per barrel in the latter half of 1999 but producers are not celebrating. These prices will have to continue for producers to increase their capital spending budgets appreciably.
