Oil's well in Latin America

Article Abstract:

The Mexican cement company Cemex has purchased an additional 25% share in the Columbian company Cementos Diamante for $47.6 million and a 99.9% share of APO Cement Corp., in the Philippines, for $400 million. The Chilean power generation firm Endesa Chile is the subject of a hostile bid, valued at $2.1 billion, from US company Duke Energy. Repsol spent $38 a share in its purchase of a 15% stake in the Argentinian oil company Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales.

Finland: solution for power companies

Article Abstract:

Imatran Voima (IVO) and Neste, the two largest energy concerns in Finland, will effectively be merged as a result of government plans to create a new holding concern for them. Some assets will not be included in the scheme, but the holding company will be responsible for unified divisions which will be set up through synergy mergers of IVO and Neste business units. The holding concern will have revenues of almost Fm60 billion a year and 16,000 employees.

Finland: A landmark review

Article Abstract:

Finnish Government officials in the Ministry of Trade and Industry are analysing the impact of a possible merger between oil company Neste and power distributor Imatran Voima Oy. The merger would need to improve competition in Finland if it is to gain European Commission approval. The resulting energy organisation would be worth more than 56 billion FM in revenue each year.
