Old town profits from mixed use

Article Abstract:

Buchanan's Court is a mixed development on a site adjoining Edinburgh, Scotland's historic Old Town. The building follows the pattern of its neighbours, using a three storey block for flats and 'outhouses' for office space. Parking is povided in a courtyard and another internal court gives access to the flats. Rob Hunter Architects used a simple, flexible design in natural materials to fulfill the client's requirements for quality and profitability. The development fits in well with its surroundings and overcomes the limits imposed by planning requirements.

Offices with an honest facade

Article Abstract:

Architect, Reiach and Hall has designed a speculative office block at 10, George Street, Edinburgh, Scotland. The building consists of two six storey blocks linked by a core and lobby. It is in the modern style but has regard for the classical buildings which surround it. Views of the city are emphasised. The building has been fully let despite a surplus of office space in Edinburgh. This is due to its high quality and interesting design.

Reviving the tenement tradition

Article Abstract:

The Galleries is a mixed office and residential development on an important site in Glasgow, Scotland. Designed by architect, Cooper Cromar Associates, the building recalls the traditional Victorian tenement buildings of the city. It has a deep plan with four storeys and a penthouse level. The development is aimed at professional tenants and marks a return to an understanding of urban housing in Glasgow being more than just a building.
