Operations planning for a multi-stage kanban system

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the Japanese kanban technique aimed at achieving the goal of just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing technology whose objectives are to improve line productivity and to minimize manufacturing costs. The model examined aims to find the optimal number of raw material orders, kanbans employed between the workstations and batch sizes for production of finished gods. Results indicate that the three issues are dependent on one another.

Optimal batch size and raw material ordering policy for a production system with a fixed-interval, lumpy demand delivery system

Article Abstract:

A multiple-order policy for computing the economic order quantity of raw materials and the economic manufacturing quantity of finished goods is introduced. The policy aims to minimize the total inventory cost of raw materials and finished goods by determining the amount of raw materials needed per production lot. It is applicable only in facilities that produce a fixed amount of finished goods and deliver them at fixed intervals during the year.

The coordinated replenishment dynamic lot-sizing problem with quantity discounts

Article Abstract:

The multiple-product lot-sizing problem with coordinated replenishments and quantity discounts is considered. Specifically, a mathematical programming model of the NP-hard problem is constructed for the all-units discount price case and the incremental discount price case. In addition, a heuristic procedure that converges to a solution in polynomial time is developed for the incremental discount version of the problem.
