Optimizing the natural gas supply mix of local distribution utilities

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to solve the problem of the optimal selection of natural gas supply agreements by gas distribution utilities using a mixed-integer linear program (MILP) and a nonlinear programming approximation of the MILP. The nonlinear programming approximation included the simulation and response surface estimation through regression analysis. Results identified weather variability as the basic stochastic factor influencing the demand for gas by different market segments.

Determination of the best main serial chain in nonserial dynamic programming networks

Article Abstract:

A simple theoretic approach for determining the best main serial chain in a nonserial network structure is presented. The best main serial chain is that portion of the network which minimizes storage demands and the effectivity of dynamic programming algorithms are highly dependent on the identification of these main chains. Nonserial network structure problems can be applied in production line, processing systems and other multi-stage decision systems.

Optimizing the level of grant support for local government: an application of a behavioural model

Article Abstract:

The government of the United Kingdom has long instituted programs aiming to curb local government spending. A local government behavioral model was utilized to determine the most efficient central government policy with regard to local level budgeting. The responses of local governments to fiscal incentives assist in determining the optimal policy to be taken within the limitations imposed on central authorities.
