Former Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega is seeking to return to power in the Nov 4, 2001, presidential elections. Ortega's Convergence alliance is a broad coalition including both Sandinists and former contra rebels, but the US is still worried about the prospect of Ortega regaining power.
