HSBC attempts a vault: reform, but not too much

Article Abstract:

HSBC Holdings PLC has implemented reforms in the wake of its $3 billion loses incurred in its Thai loan portfolio. The huge loss was attributed to complacency due to the substantial growth rates which the Asian economies were able to achieve year after year. HSBC was overexposed to real estate and lent in US dollars to projects which did not have dollar income. As a result, the firm will now require rigorous analysis of its lending and will emphasize better customer service.
