PHARMACIA & UPJOHN PLANS MANUFACTURING UNITS IN INDIA

Article Abstract:

Pharmacia & Upjohn (India) Pvt Ltd (PUIPL) of Pharmacia & Upjohn Inc, has set up a $8.8 million intraocular lens plant at Jakkasandra near Bangalore. The company plans to set up more manufacturing units in India. The ophthalmologic lens are used in treating eye cataract treatment. The capacity of the new plant is 500,000 lenses per annum and in the first year of its operation it is expected to manufacture 100,000 lenses. The lenses are priced at Rs1,000 per piece. PUIPL hopes to post a turnover of Rs40 crore in 1998-99. (gs)

SAHARA MAKES A BID TO REGROW WINGS

Article Abstract:

Sahara India Airlines (SIA) plans to induct two new generation Boeing 737-700 aircraft. It is likely to lease the aircrafts from Ansett Worldwide of Australia. It will induct the aircraft after April 1, 1999 to avail lease tax benefits announced in the Union Budget of 1999-2000. It has signed a preliminary agreement with the Australian firm. SIA currently has a fleet of four aircraft compared to Jet Airways fleet of 25 aircraft. (rk)(vr)

HAL TO BEGIN JET TRAINER WORK NEXT YEAR

Article Abstract:

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) proposes to commence production of trainer jet aircrafts during early 1999. The aircrafts will replace the outdated Kiran aircraft in three years. HAL also proposes to produce spares for advanced light helicopters and other aircraft at its Nasik division. During 1997- 98, HAL posted sales of Rs1,860 crore and net profit of Rs150 crore. (ag)
