POWERGRID CHALKS OUT PLAN FOR TELECOM ROUTE

Article Abstract:

The Rs1,435-crore PowerGrid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) is diversifying into the telecom sector. At present, it is the nodal agency for power transmission lines in India. A credit of $300 million is being finalised from the World Bank. Overseas consultants are being short listed for selection. The telecom project is divided into three phases, and will be handled by a separate division. PGCIL may consider forming subsidiaries with equity participation. The company would first draw the telecom route to increase the network. Additional capacity for fibre optics would be added on to the transmission lines. Pricing of operations would be competitive. NIMRA CHALKS OUT Rs10-CRORE EXPANSION PLAN

Nimra Cerglass Technics Private Limited (Nimra), the indigenous manufacturer of catalytic converters, has drawn up a Rs10 crore expansion plan. The expansion plan envisages entering the retrofit market, enhancing manufacturing capacity and setting up exclusive centres all over the country. At present, the company manufactures catalytic converters for all categories of vehicles, including diesel vehicles. (gsh)

BAUME & MERCIER CHALKS OUT INDIA PLANS

Article Abstract:

Baume & Mercier of Switzerland plans to launch its Capeland brand of watches for men in India by February 1999. The watches are to be priced at $1200-$2600 per piece. The company also plans to launch a cheaper leather strap line of watches priced below $1000 in order to increase sales volumes. The company will soon be signing up an actress or a cricketer to endorse the Capeland brand. (khr)
