Pakistan: cleaning up its act

Article Abstract:

Pakistan retains a reputation as a politically unstable and corrupt country with severe economic difficulties, and it will take the Pakistani government a long time to improve this image. The government has succeeded in remaining in power for three years, and has made efforts to reduce the budget deficit. It is also giving considerable attention to attracting foreign investors, and is running a wide-scale privatisation programme. Large foreign investment incentives are now being offered, but many overseas businessmen still have reservations about the country's economic and political stability.
