Paris capacity under strain

Aeroports de Paris (ADP), the operator of the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, is considering its options as the airport continues to reach its limit of 55 million passengers annually, an amount that could be reached by 2005. ADP Pres Yves Cousquer said they are thinking of transfering some of the growth in passenger traffic to high-speed trains or the provincial airports. French Transport Minister Jean Claude Gayssot said the government will soon decide on whether a third airport will be built in the Paris region.

Madrid setting new standards

Article Abstract:

Madris Barajas airport has been awarded an International Standard Organization-14.0001 accreditation. The granting of the environmental management certificate shows that the airport has identified, controlled and reduced negative aspects of its operations, and has harmonized the growth of airport activity with the environment. Madris Barajas was able to secure the accrediation by implementing a management system for its personnel and companies working at the airport.

AENA gives go-ahead for Madrid

Article Abstract:

Spanish airports authority AENA has approved the construction of a new terminal and related facilities worth Ptas 26.66 billion ($740 million) at Madrid-Barajas airport. The project is part of the master plan which would add two more runways and boost passenger capacity at the airport to 80 million annually by 2020. The new terminal, which would have an area of 470,261 sq mt, will be built by a consortium of Spanish construction companies.
