Paris sewers give city of light a fiber-optic edge: Mayor offers system as lower-cost route for high-speed line

Article Abstract:

Bertrand Delanoe, the M ayor of Paris, France, is offering fee breaks to telecommunications companies that use Paris' sewer system to lay fiber optic cables. Use of underground sewers eliminates the need to dig up roads and to obtain rights of way. However, some are questioning the $8.9 billion cost to lay fiber optic cable for all of France.

Vivendi's profit falls 51 percent, but outlook is improved

Article Abstract:

Vivendi S.A. of France posted a net profit decrease by 51 percent for the fourth quarter to 610 million Euros ($800 million) down from 1.25 billion Euros last year. Profits for 2007 are forecast to be at least 2.7 billion Euros. Strong financial outlook is due to increased sales of new World of Warcraft internet role-playing game.

Lagardere names media executive to lead revamp

Didier Quillot is appointed to head the management boards of Filipacchi Medias and Lagardere Active, subsidiaries of Lagardere Groupe S.A. of France. The publishing giant is currently restructuring Hachette Fiipacchi Medias and Lagardere Active into separate companies.
