As the world population ages, there will be increasing stress on the social security systems of industrialized nations. In Britain the Labor Party may have the Tories at a disadvantage on the issue if they can appeal to those concerned about the system's viability.

The chancellor of the exchequer will deliver his annual statement on Mar 16, 1993. The budget, monetary policy, fiscal policy, borrowing plans and economic forecasts will be laid out. Interest rate cuts, bond yields and the GDP point to the need for a tight budget.
