Perfumes in Germany

Article Abstract:

The retail market for fragrances and perfumes in Germany totalled 1.59 billion German marks in 1994, against 1.54 billion German marks in 1993. Within the market, perfume and eau de parfum accounted for 450 million German marks, male fragrances 410 million German marks, and other female fragrances 725 million German marks. Almost half of fragrance sales are accounted for by Muehlens, famous for its eau de Cologne, and Benckiser's Lancaster group. There are good prospects for the German fragrances market as consumption levels are lower than in a number of other European markets.
