Finland's MeritaNordbanken will not buy the Estonian Uhispank as they already have an Estonian branch office as well as a holding in a leasing company. MeritaNordbanken plans to grow in Estonia within its present operations. Estonian banks have considered the possibility of joining forces to cope with their problems. According to some estimates, they will also need foreign cooperation to get over their difficulties.

The Finnish Leonia Corporate Bank will centralize their operations in the Far East. The representation office in Hong Kong will be closed and its operations will be transferred to Singapore. More matters, especially those regarding China, will be handled from the head office in Helsinki, Finland. According to Leonia, companies' need for services in Asia has not decreased. Especially projects in Indonesia require even more extensive research by the bank.
