Phelps Dodge's net beats estimates in third quarter

Phelps Dodge Corp. posted higher-than-expected earnings for the third-quarter of 1999. The strong figures gave the company new momentum to takeover Asarco Inc. Phelps Dodge, a copper company, reported $15.4 million (14.5 million euros) in net income for the period. This represented a decline of 46% compared to the net income during the same period in 1998. The firm posted $28.6 million in the same quarter in 1998.

Angloplats, Impala expected to post strong earnings

Article Abstract:

Impala Platinum Holdings is expected to post approximately 30 rand (4.14 euros) per share in earnings for the first-half ending December 31, 2000, compared to 11.83 rand per share in the same 1999 period. Anglo American Platinum Corp. will post about 30 rand per share in earnings for the 2000 year, compared to 11.97 rand per share in 1999.
