Philips to separate chip business, signaling possible listing or sale

Article Abstract:

Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. of Netherlands is planning to make its semiconductor division a separate company, possibly for a merger, sale or listing of the unit. The semiconductor operation posted sales of 4.7 billion Euros ($5.64 billion) in 2004. The electronics giant has posted declining revenue amidst falling market share for some products and increased competition from Asian companies.

Philips Electronics boosts stake in TCL ahead of share overhaul

Article Abstract:

Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. of the Netherlands plans to increase its investment in TCL Corp. by approximately $25 million. The investment by the electronics company is to occur after a share overhaul that will convert its nontradable shares into tradable shares.
