Picking potential M&A targets can be a tricky task in Asia, analysts say

Article Abstract:

Fund managers warn against investing heavily on Asian companies that are rumored of planning mergers and acquisitions in the hope that the rumors will come true and boost the stock prices of these companies. They believe that such approach to investing is risky and that many companies which announce plans to consolidate often change their decisions at the last minute. However, they encourage nonstrategic strategic investments in the telecommunications, infrastructure and finance sectors because even the slightest rumor can enhance the share prices of companies.
