'Plastic' armored vehicle breaks the mold

Article Abstract:

The UK Defense Evaluation and Research Agency has completed the development of its Advanced Composite Armored Vehicle Platform (ACAVP), the first European-made armored vehicle with a hull made of fiber-plastics composites. The ACAVP was developed in collaboration with several UK companies. These include Vickers Defense Systems, which designed and assembled the vehicle, Vosper Thornycroft, which produced the moldings for the hull, Hexel Composites, which supplied the fabrics of E-glass fibers, and CIBA, which provided the Araldite LY 556 epoxy resin.

Digital techology enhances GPS performance

Article Abstract:

Raytheon Systems Ltd, in collaboration with the UK Defense Evaluation and Research Agency and Rocke Manor Research, has developed an Advanced Digital Antenna Control Unit (ADACU). The company claims that the device provides Global Positioning System receivers with substantially higher performance than is available from present analogue antenna control units. As its next project, the team plans to reduce the size and weight of the ADACU by a factor of 10:1.

Brimstone aerial firing

Article Abstract:

Alenia Marconi Systems has announced the successful aerial testing of its Brimstone anti-armor air-to-surface missiles at the Warton airfield in the United Kingdom. The anti-armor missiles, which were fired from a BAE Systems Tornado trials aircraft, will have its final series of airborne firing trials in early 2001. The trials will be conducted at the China Lake Naval Test Center in California.
