Getting away with merger

The European Commission has allowed all but one of the many multinational corporate mergers over which it has jurisdiction to go forward, but a report by the Centre for Economic Policy Research claims its merger review process is haphazard and should be reformed.

Europeans fear the effects of the Single European Act of 1986, which will remove trade barriers within the EC by Jan 1, 1993. There is fear of both to much and too little regulation. Despite popular belief, the Commission is a very open bureaucracy.
