'Plugola' scandal spurs tough Aussie disclosure rules

Top-rated Sidney, Australia-based radio station Radio 2UE will have to comply with tightened disclosure rules in the wake of a 'cash for comment' scandal. Highly popular veteran Radio 2UE broadcasters Alan Jones and John Laws were discovered to have directly accepted enormous sums of money by companies to mention their products on air. They had contracts with the Australian Bankers Assn, telephone companies, one casino, a cable television service, an airline, one publisher, a truckers' lobby group and one cruise line, among other deals.

Malaysian carmaker tries to crash Aussie market

Article Abstract:

Malaysian automaker Proton is spending the equivalent of C$3.5 million on an advertising campaign called the Proton World Tour which will be concentrated in Malaysia. While the Proton has gained significant market share, in the Asia-Pacific region, its market share in Australia has remained very small, and the advertising campaign is intended to increase brand awareness of the Proton in the country.
