The economic growth experienced by many Asian nations has brought forth numerous problems for urban areas such as traffic, pollution and a decline in the quality of life. There are several basic principles essential to building livable metropolitan areas. City planners should build cities around natural features and protect existing culturally and historically significant buildings and neighborhoods. They should also focus on establishing vital public infrastructure before concentrating on growth-stimulating facilities.

A branch-and-bound method to solve Job-shop Scheduling Problems is presented. The test problem is stored in a fileindicating the number of machines and jobs, with the number of operations, machines used and process time of each operation detailed for each job. The method is executed using C-Compiler (Sun) and Borland Turbo C 2.0 (PS/2) on a Sun 4/20 FM/8 SPARC station SLC and an IBM PS/2 Model 80386.
