Policyholders and shareholders in competition

Article Abstract:

A number of factors are driving the process of consolidation in the UK life assurance sector. These include the anticipated cost of guaranteed annuity options and continued concern about the mis-selling of pensions. The House of Commons treasury select committee is seeking a much more open policy on the attribution of the estates of life companies between shareholders and policyholders. Several companies have already reached agreement with the government about the terms on which part of their estate will be attributed to shareholders.
