Polish privatisations plough on despite Russia

Article Abstract:

Poland is determined to proceed with its extensive privatization programme, despite the economic crisis in Russia. It is set to see proceeds from privatization of $4.6 billion in 1999, even though around two-thirds of state-owned companies are currently undergoing recovery or bankruptcy proceedings. Significant progress has been made already with privatization in the steel industry, and the telecommunications market is also being gradually liberalized.
