Community spirit

Article Abstract:

Efforts by Britain's new communities minister David Miliband to revitalize the community spirit among the country's citizens have become a target for criticism, particularly the Sustainable Communities plan. Several architectural and urban design books published in 2005 are, in some way, contributions to this debate about remodeling communities.

Popularising poplar

Article Abstract:

Michael Owens, chief executive of not-for-profit agency Leaside Regeneration, is working to improve the inner-city districts of Bow and Poplar in London and ensure that people living in these areas benefit from nearby developments. Owen's vision for the Bow and Poplar area is discussed.
