Priced out of a job

Article Abstract:

Inflexibility is often a problem when wages are set, with labor unions and labor law impeding agreements. Pressure pushing prices down tends to be more noticeable in countries with rigid pay structures. This is especially true of Japan, where reductions in bonuses and ending overtime are among the ways that earnings can be controlled without pay being cut. Employees have become more mobile, and pay is less based on length of time with companies and experience, with more awareness of rates outside particular companies.
