Article Abstract:

Private equity company Procuritas of Stockholm, Sweden, has generated annual investor returns of over 100% gross on investments via the Procuritas MBO Invest Consortium fund. The fund has Skr260 million capital in 1997, with Skr644 million paid back to investors through realisations. Procuritas believes the markets in Norway and Denmark have not yet matured, while demand for private equity capital has been high in Finland and Sweden in the 1990s. Procuritas was established in 1986, with its first fund set up in 1990.

Golden Brown

Article Abstract:

John Brown, deputy managing director of private equity player Cinven, says that the company's aim is to achieve good returns on its investments for clients. Brown believes that the company's 20 year experience in the investment market gives it the ability to handle the biggest transactions while growing and developing the invested business. Cinven was established in 1977 as British Coal's investment arm but was acquired by the management in 1995 when British Coal's privatization was announced.

Thomas H Lee turns attention to Europe

Article Abstract:

Thomas H Lee (TH Lee) and Putnam Investments have formed a strategic partnership in order to offer alternative asset funds. TH Lee will have a 75% stake in the venture while Putnam will get 20% of TH Lee's future buyout business. The new company will not operate in the US but will focus on Europe and the Internet. It is expected to have capital amounting to between $500 million and $1 billion to develop Internet businesses in established companies.
