Protecting the core competencies of a company: intangible asset security

Article Abstract:

US companies spend $30 billion annually protecting their tangible assets, however, intangible assets such as skills, reputation and brand loyalty, are not protected in the same way and are not given appropriate management attention. Intangible assets are hard to quantify but they play an essential role in the achievement of corporate core competencies, and are likely to become increasingly important. An method of valuing intangible assets is given, and four approaches to intangible security are discussed.
