Pyongyang's nuclear game

Article Abstract:

Economic sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council may be necessary to compel North Korea to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to carry out special inspections of undeclared nuclear facilities. Such inspections are vital to preventing North Korea from acquiring nuclear weapons, a development that would undermine the security of northeast Asia and increase the chances of a second Korean war. The effort by the US, Japan and South Korea to secure North Korean cooperation through concessions may prove insufficient without the additional incentive of sanctions.

The Pyongyang myth

Article Abstract:

North Korea's official government policies exhibited little change in the last 30 years. Contrary to rhetoric on North Korea's liberalization efforts, the country continues to engaged in activities meant to undermine South Korea. Negotiations with the US, China and Japan are often cited by the country as proof of North Korea's sincerity in pursuing closer relations with the outside world, yet these negotiations remain bogged down because of North Korea's intransigence.

Nuke begets nuke: if Pyongyang builds a bomb, others will follow

Article Abstract:

The implications of an Asia filled with nuclear weapons is frightening and if North Korea would be confirmed to have nuclear weapons, almost all nations in the region would panic and follow suit. Japan particularly, who has the best technology and most ample resources, would be able to produce a huge arsenal of nuclear bombs that could outmatch any nation's armory. A firm US nuclear ban commitment is important to negate this dreadful scenario.
