RELIANCE FIRST HALF NET UP 10 PC TO Rs921 Cr

Article Abstract:

The net profit of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has gone up by 10 percent to Rs921 crore ($217 million) in the first half of the current year ended September 30, 1998. RIL's sales increased by 16 percent to Rs7,374 crore ($1.74 billion). The company's market share has increased in all its major products segments in polyesters from 39 percent to 43 percent; in fibre intermediates from 78 percent to 81 percent and in plastics from 58 percent to 61 percent. RIL earned Rs286 crore from exports in the first half which is an increase of 230 percent over Rs86 crore in the first half 1997-98. (uh)

BILT FAILS TO TRIM, SEES OUT ONLY 12 OF 100 IN MANAGEMENT CADRE

Article Abstract:

The efforts of Ballarpur Industries Ltd (Bilt) to cut down its management strength has failed with its employee retirement scheme (ERS) receiving lukewarm response. Of the total management strength of around 100 employees, for whom the scheme was offered, only 12 officials accepted the scheme which was open for nearly one year. The pre-conditions for availing the ERS included 15-year tenure of employment in Bilt and the ceiling of the compensation offered was at Rs2.5 lakh. (gsh)

BILT H1 NET PROFIT UP TO 15.48 CRORE

Article Abstract:

The net profit of Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT) has increased to Rs15.48 crore in the first half of 1998-99 (Rs7.62 crore in the first half of 1997-98). It recorded net sales of Rs529.79 crore (Rs677.03 crore). Its gross profit after interest and financing, before depreciation and tax was at Rs40.09 crore (Rs27.57 crore). BILT has hived off its chemical division into a separate unit called Bilt Chemicals Ltd. (gs)
