Rainbow nation reborn

Article Abstract:

South Africa may have enjoyed economic and political stability since the birth of its new democracy in Apr. 1994 but it must still overcome many political and economic problems before the people are truly united. One of the greatest problems unemployment: some 4.7 million people are unemployed, of which half are under 30. Other huge social problems include the rapid population growth and the rise in violent crime. There are still wide gaps between the living standards of different groups: it is estimated that up to 80% of the population may lack adequate water, housing or electricity.
