The market for mergers and acquisitions in Austria is discussed with emphasis on the year 2000. The market saw a record year and this growth has continued into 2001. Bank Austria's merger with the German bank HypoVereinsbank creating Europe's third largest bank was the highlight.

Callahan in DT cable deal

Issues are presented concerning the acquisition of the cable television business of Deutsche Telekom by the US company Callahan Associates LLC for $680-million. The ability of Callahan to reach 6.5-million customers is discussed.
