Refining passive design

Article Abstract:

The 1995 Solar Energy Society conference discussed passive design and it was established that although the subject is covered in several assessment procedures there is a clear need for a standardised assessment procedures within the United Kingdom. Various designs were discussed, and included subjects such as passive solar building financing, concrete floor slabs usage, daylight distribution using light shelves and louvres and displacement ventilation.

Techniques to link theory and design

Article Abstract:

Delegates at the International Space Syntax Symposium held at the Space Syntax Laboratory, University College London in Apr 1997 demonstrated some of the latest work on space syntax techniques. Space Syntax Laboratory representative Jake Desyllus illustrated its visual strengths in a study of Berlin before, and after reunification. Space syntax helps the individual to gain an overall picture of spacial orientation.

Where there's a Will

Article Abstract:

Will Alsop is continuing with successful architectural work in many European countries and has recently been awarded the 'Les Palmares de l'Architecture' in France. Alsop is working with Roger Zogolovitch and the Labour Party to create an industrial policy for the United Kingdom, and has been involved in the Lottery project urban-regeneration program in Northampton.
