Yegor Gaidar has been making concessions in the form of credit guarantees to business managers who are pressuring him to lighten his tough economic reforms. Increasing demands for cheap credit by business leaders may drive Russia into hyperinflation and ruin reform measures.

The US and other Western countries have announced an economic aid package for Russia. The hope is to support the economic reform measures of former finance minister Yegor Gaidar. Economic aid is essential to the success of economic reform in Russia.

Russia must stick with a cohesive economic policy if it is to curb inflation and climb out of its recession. Proposals by economic minister Yegor Gaidar to put controls on prices would cause greater inflation and create a deeper recession.
