Regional concentration and efficiency in Mexican manufacturing

Article Abstract:

Regional productivity, production efficiency and agglomeration economies are a major concern in regional economics. Total factor productivity is measured to shed light into the changing nature of regional production. Linear programming is used to calculate efficiency in relation to a deterministic production function frontier in Mexican manufacturing. The link between industrial location, concentration and economic efficiency in Mexican manufacturing is examined.

A sequential heuristic procedure for one-dimensional cutting

Article Abstract:

Sequential Heuristic Procedure was applied to the optimization of one-dimensional stock cutting with variable stock length. The result is an algorithm designed to adapt to the conditions and restrictions that appears in actual practice. The algorithm became the basis for the development of the CUT computer program, a fast and improved version of the clothing industry's COLA program that is capable of doing "what-if" analysis by changing the given parameters.

Economic design of screening procedures when the rejected items are processed

Article Abstract:

New economic screening procedures were formulated to handle rejected items that are for reprocessing. The procedures, which are based on the performance variable and a correlated variable, takes into consideration factors that are related to cost such as reprocessing cost and inspection cost. Numerical results revealed that performance variable-based screening procedures tend to be outperformed by correlated variable-based screening procedures.
