Reverse takeover: Taiwanese investment in China

Article Abstract:

Taiwanese capital will probably flow into China despite the opposition of Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang-Nationalist Party. Nationalists blocked the Nov 1992 Formosa Plastics investment of $6 billion, but many other companies such as President Enterprises continue to plot mainland strategies.

China's liberalization of trade policy in 1978 has produced sharp increases in the value of China's trade, with annual growth rates in excess of 12% since 1980. The export-import boom in China has spurred a dramatic rise in foreign investment.
