The OECD 'Employment Outlook' cited several reasons for the growing gap between the lowest and highest wages in industrial nations. The relationship between wages and unemployment was the focus of the report, but it also covered such topics as the decline of unions and deindustrialization.

The debt crisis of developing countries during the 1980s has passed, but it took a long time, and many lessons need to be remembered. Reforms were not always consistent, unstable political conditions discouraged investment and floating-rate bank loans created fears.
