Moldova's ethnic Russians and Romanian speakers could reunify their territorial split. Igor Smirnov, leader the Russian Transdniestria republic, is willing to accept a unification settlement. Moldovan Pres Mircea Snegur is against it, yet his possible unseating after elections could change this.
