Robust responses to climate change via stochastic MARKAL: the case of Quebec

Article Abstract:

A multi-stage stochastic programming strategy was developed to create a flexible energy plan that takes into consideration climate change and economic growth factors. The strategy, which is a stochastic version of Extended MARKAL (MARKet ALlocation) model, was used to study the greenhouse gas emission control in Quebec, Canada for the next 40 years. It considers a wide array of future scenarios and presents mid-course corrections based on actual realization of future scenarios.
