Russia rebuffs E.U. on natural gas

Article Abstract:

Russia and the European Union are meeting at an economic summit in Sochi on the Black Sea to work out an energy policy. Hopes of the European Union were dashed when Russia said it would resist liberalization of its natural-gas conglomerate. The European Union is looking for alternative energy sources as Russia is perceived as being unreliable.

Merkel energizes Western links to Russia

President Vladimir Putin has promised a smooth energy supply to the European Union after a dispute with Belarus that shut down an European petroleum pipeline. Mr. Putin met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in talks concerning foreign and energy policies. Ms. Merkel is a highlight in European diplomacy and popularity.

Russia says it plans to loosen state monopoly on gas exports

Russia has announced an energy policy that loosens the state monopoly on exports from the gas industry. The policy announcement came at the Group of 8 economic forum in Moscow. The theme of the economic summit is energy security and studies the risk of high energy prices on global economic growth.
